Eagle Creek Fast Crit.-Criterium

7.3.07

Eagle Creek-Masters 3/4 and Cat 3's
From Dave Anderson

Sunny, dry and cool temps for the morning race. Perfect. MOB had a good team put together for the Masters race. Scottie, T-Rent, Spencer, Mark D. and Johnny. The plan was to cover the ex-MOB fast guy which we did for the whole race except for the end when it counted. It is sometimes difficult to organize a lead out towards the end of a crit when the riders have not raced or trained all that much together. This was the case for us. This course doesn't help either once you get an outside line to the finish because you are sprinting on a gradual turn. The whole course is one big circle. Not a typical crit course. Scottie gave me a good lead out but the ex-MOBster really jumped hard and got enough of a gap that it was too much for me to close. Plus we were trying to sprint around the outside which also added too much distance to make up. I ended up 8th and Scottie was 13th. T-rent road aggressively which is what I like to see. Keep attacking them and you will get in the break that sticks before long!

The IIIs race was much better. We got it right this time! The Falcon was flying the whole race. It seemed like the race was between three or four of us MOBsters and Weston Luz (another ex-MOBer who now races for IS Corp). I think Weston covered every attack and made several himself. Adam L., me, Graham and The Falcon were taking the race to the rest of the peleton. At the end the lead out was really coming together and our designated sprinter was John (Il Falcone). With three laps to go the youngling Graham attacks and takes another unattached with him. They dangle enough to force one of the other teams to chase--I think the Ft. Wayne Khoelinger bunch. This was a perfect move even if Graham didn't know it because it allowed the peleton to get lined out and for us to line up behind the chasing team. Once they were caught the peleton and especially Khoelinger (sp?) were gassed enough to allow us to wind it up. Toby (Grizzly Adams) Holzman came up and pulled hard and steady for a lap and then Mario came from nowhere to set a blistering leadout with me, Adam L. and then Falcon in tow. Mario did an awesome job! The only problem was that he sat up on the inside lane and forced me to stop my pedaling to adjust and then shoot around him on the outside. Concentration when you're putting in a max effort is most of the battle. Just like Yogi Berra used to say, "90% of the game is mental, the other half is physical." No worries though Mario, Adam and the Falcon did not hesitate to bust it to the line. Adam followed through with a terrific leadout and Il Falcone came around for the win. Adam ended up 5th and I was right behind for 6th. Way to go everyone on an excellent team effort! This is how we do it! Other notables in the race were Spencer and Scottie in their second race for the day as well.

Eagle Creek Fast Crit.-Cat 4's, Citizens and Cat 1/2/3's

In the Cat 1/2/3 and Masters 40+ Mike Sharp does double solo duty to give the MOB a presence in these two races. The man road awesome. He road very strong in the heavily contested Masters race and stayed in the main pack to sprint for 6th. He also stood tough and finished up front again in the Cat 1/2/3 Race, placing 8th. Way to go Mike.
The Cat 4's had a heated battle with lots of attacks but none sticking. In the end Rob sprints for 3rd place, followed closely by Matt 5th, Neal 6th and Chris rounding off the top 10.

Eagle Creek Fast Crit.-Woman's

There was a good group of woman riders at the Eagle Creek Fast Crit this year. Representing the MOB was our very own Abby Nicks. She road a very good race and finished the day 4th. Winning he womans race was our very own Scott Hill's wife, Heather Hill. Wow, she just had a baby. Way to go ladies!!!

Thank you for reading this weekends racing reports.

Take Care
